Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, since 2014, the concept and format of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence has undergone revolutionary changes. The goal of the scheme is to promote creative competition, innovation, replication, and institutionalization of best practices.
Instead of focusing solely on quantitative targets, the emphasis will be on good governance, qualitative achievements, and last-mile connectivity. This year, under the Overall District Development category, the award scheme recognizes the performance of district collectors through implementation targeting individual beneficiaries and a saturation approach. The evaluation of nominations for these awards is based on three criteria: good governance, qualitative achievements, and quantitative outcomes.
